Il Rifugio Casa Assietta “Jack Canali” si trova nel Parco naturale del Gran Bosco di Salbertrand, alla quota di mt. 2509 tra la Testa del Mottas e la Testa dell’Assietta, un territorio di grande importanza storica e teatro della battaglia tra l’esercito piemontese e quello francese del 1747, di cui sono ancora visibili i trinceramenti e le ridotte.
È dedicato alla guida alpina Gian Carlo “Jack” Canali travolto da una slavina nel comune di Pragelato, durante un attraversamento sci-alpinistico da Sauze d’Oulx a Sestriere.
È una struttura molto antica, ex Casa Cantoniera costruita dal Genio Militare nel 1890 e inserita nel sistema fortificato ottocentesco della cresta. Negli anni 2000 è stato risistemato e adattato per diventare un rifugio e un punto di sosta e ristoro per alpinisti, escursionisti e turisti.

Essendo una struttura in alta quota sono stati approntati sistemi per garantire i servizi agli escursionisti nel rispetto dell’ambiente e tenendo in considerazione l’utilizzo oculato di acqua ed elettricità.
L’energia è fornita tramite un impianto a pannelli fotovoltaici: non essendo allacciati alla rete elettrica tradizionale, l’uso è limitato e dedicato alle necessità di base della struttura.

È obbligatorio l’utilizzo del sacco a pelo o sacco lenzuolo personali, possibilità di acquistare il kit monouso direttamente in rifugio. sono presenti coperte e cuscini in ogni posto letto.
I cani (e altri animali in genere) non sono ammessi nella zona notte: in caso di pernotto potranno stare legati al piano terra, assicurando che non diano intralcio o fastidio agli altri ospiti.
